Oz vs Tim Parker (WCW, 5-19-1991)

WCW SuperBrawl, St. Petersburg, FL

In Jim Herd’s infinite wisdom, he realized that they were owned by Turner, who also owned a lot of classic movies. So he wanted to change Ric Flair’s name to Spartacus and give him an earring and a sword and shield. That didn’t happen, but he did manage to get Oz out there.

If you’ve never seen it:

But don’t worry, it’s not actually a giant ancient magical lunatic wizard. It’s just our buddy Kevin Nash.

Tim Parker is the job guy opponent, which is just what you want at the one-hour mark of a pay-per-view. Oz wins in 40 seconds with an admittedly cool spinning power bomb throw. Kevin Nash would get two months of “boy, this really sucks but we did it so let’s have him win some matches” work before they just had Ron Simmons beat him in eight minutes at The Great American Bash in July, then he lost to Bill Kazmaier at Halloween Havoc and it was done by the end of ’91. He did get some Japan work in both ’91 and ’92 out of it before landing with the WWF and finding his career groove.

The rating is not just for the match, the match is a normal quick squash, big man destroys small man. But it is for everything here. And also I’m not mad about this or, like, railing on the insult to the great sport of wrestling. It is super funny and awesome that this shit happened.

Rating: 0/5
