Big Josh vs Black Bart (WCW, 5-19-1991)

WCW SuperBrawl, St. Petersburg, FL

Black Bart was subbing in for Larry Zbyszko, who had a knee injury. Bart, who wrestled at Starrcades 84 and 85, the former in a bloodbath with Manny Fernandez, had popped back in to WCW to lose on house shows a few months prior. Big Josh comes to the ring with two bears walking on their hind legs and one of them pisses all over the entrance ramp.

Big Josh is a hunting buddy of Tommy “Wildfire” Rich. There’s two fellas with guns you can keep away from me.

Josh with a couple of hiptosses and a clothesline and then THE LOG ROLL, baby, yeah!! Borne was such a good wrestler he made “Big Josh” halfway OK, but it’s honestly a more insulting gimmick than Doink ever was. At least they acknowledged with Doink that he was a great wrestler; with Josh he’s supposed to be some dumbshit who ain’t never a-heered’a no RASSLIN. Worth noting that Borne basically ignored the ideas of Big Josh being an ignorant flannel man from the pacific northwest and just wrestled like normal for the most part, which made the commentary super confused.

Ross and Dusty discuss the terms “dadgum,” “dadnab,” and “dadburn.”

Josh mostly does well and hits a clothesline and a running butt splash for the win. It’s just running, though. You gotta do it off the top rope for it to produce a fart noise.

This is fine, but it’s also nothing. That’s the first hour of WCW PPVs around this period quite often. And like a lot of matches, really no doubt these guys could have done something better. Bart was no “great worker,” but he could brawl, and Borne was fantastic.
