Bruiser Brody vs Terry Gordy (WCCW, 9-17-1983)

World Class Championship Wrestling, Dallas, TX

These are hosses. This is on WCCW 90 on WWE Network.

This starts with no entrances, just the two of them brawling before the introductions can go up. Brody drops Gordy, but telegraphs a backdrop and Gordy kicks him in the chest. Marc Lowrance announces their names while they’re fighting. You can’t abandon protocol.

They go to the floor, where Gordy sends Brody into the ring post, knocking over the ring steps. “Gordy a wild man! I don’t know what he learned in the Orient!”

Gordy elbows Brody in the jaw, but Brody punches him in the face. Gordy chokes Brody on the apron, then Brody gets into the ring and Gordy punches him square in the forehead. Gordy rakes the eyes.

Brody goes to the breadbasket with a shot, then a couple kicks to the chest put Gordy down. Bill Mercer is telling us about PROFESSOR SINGH-FU (sp?) teaching Gordy the Oriental Spike.

Brody building some momentum here, Gordy begging off in the corner a bit. Brody stays on him, right hand and then a whip to the other corner, where Gordy takes a flip off the turnbuckles.

Gordy coming back, though, going to the eyes again. Gordy choking Brody. Gordy with a slam. Gordy with another shot to the head. And a headbutt. Gordy charges the corner but runs into a boot from Bruiser.

Brody with another shot to the head with his boot. And another. Brody with a right hand, then he scoops and slams Gordy, just EFFORTLESSLY, and Gordy was a big, thick, heavy man. Brody does it again. He goes for the running kneedrop, but Gordy moves!

Gordy takes control with a flying axhandle and a fistdrop for two. Brody ducks a clothesline and hits a crossbody off the ropes — 1, 2, 3, Brody wins it!

BUT WAIT! Gordy has the Oriental Spike on Brody! Brody goes down and is in clear pain. Bill Mercer isn’t sure if that’s the Oriental Spike he’s heard about (it is). Gordy stomps away at Brody after letting him good, and then Brody is busted open on the floor with Gordy standing tall in the ring. “Get him, Bruiser!” a woman shouts.

Brody goes back in to fight some more. Gordy with a right hand, another one, and the crowd is trying to rally Brody, but Gordy gets the Oriental Spike again! The bell clangs but Gordy doesn’t care. The referee finally pulls him off of Brody, who clutches at his neck, twitching on the mat.

Rating: 3.5/5. Short and violent, a good combination. Gordy is one of my favorite wrestlers ever and I am becoming an even bigger Brody fan these days, thanks to finally reading Larry Matysik & Barbara Goodish’s book about the legend. It’s hard not to become a bigger fan of his when you read more about the real man behind the wildman. Anyway, this is a real hoot and it won’t take you much time to watch it.
