Booker T vs Jeff Jarrett (WCW, 10-2-2000)

WCW Monday Nitro, San Francisco, CA

A request! This is a “San Francisco 49ers match” for the constantly-vacated WCW world heavyweight title of 1999-00, which was yet again vacant because Vince Russo had hilariously and beneficially won it on the prior week’s Nitro from Booker T, who had held it a whopping eight days after beating Kevin Nash (20 days) at Fall Brawl.

This is the eighth time in just under a year that the WCW title has been vacant. I’m not trying to be all stodgy, old man, “the title is to be treated SERIOUSLY!” on you, even if I generally do feel that way, but the post-Russo version(s) of WCW were ridiculous even for, like, middle period “Scrubs.”

(Requests open and tips always appreciated!)

Diamond Dallas Page vs David Arquette vs Jeff Jarrett (WCW, 5-7-2000)

WCW Slamboree, Kansas City, MO

A request! This was during WCW’s frankly pathetic attempt at a Russo/Bischoff-led “reboot,” which was pretty much as big a disaster as the months leading up to that after WCW foolishly put the company in the hands of Russo and Ed Ferrara in ’99, a dramatic and immediate failure.

Arquette had won the WCW title on an episode of Thunder in late April in a tag match that included his Ready to Rumble pal DDP, who was champ at the time, as they took on Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett, with the winner of the fall getting the belt. Arquette pinned Bischoff.

This move was PANNED! It won the GOOKER AWARD and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic award! It was disgusting! The most disgusting promotional tactic in all of wrestling in 2000! Historically, Arquette winning the title that had no value left by that point was sandwiched between “The WWF keeps doing their PPV after killing a guy” and “Stephanie McMahon thinks 9/11 is exactly like when her dad got indicted.”

(Requests open and tips always appreciated!)

Men’s Royal Rumble (WWE, 1-27-2019)

WWE Royal Rumble, Phoenix, AZ

A request! HEY! If you’re the requester of this request, which was a double request, I’ve already done your other request, the requested Brock Lesnar vs Finn Balor match from this same show. Please request another request! @ me on Twitter or DM me there; I may not see either super fast, but I can’t think of another way. Email? tapemachines at gmail dot com.

Anyway, here we are in Phoenix, beginning the Road to WrestleMania 35 proper at the Rooooooyal Rumble. 30 fellas will compete for a chance to challenge for either the WWE Championship, currently at this point held by Daniel Bryan, or the WWE Universal Championship, currently at this point held by Brock Lesnar.

(Requests open and tips always appreciated!)

Royal Rumble Match (WWF, 1-18-1998)

WWF Royal Rumble, San Jose, CA

Got a Ko-fi request for any Royal Rumble match, dealer’s choice. I’d only ever reviewed for the site the ’92 Rumble, which is the best one and any other argument is deeply wrong, I’m sorry you’re not as old as I am if you disagree, on the plus side you will live longer, on the … minus side the world you are left with looks like it will be dogshit.

Anyway, I, as the dealer, put four options to the world for seven minutes.

So here we are!

(Requests open and tips always appreciated!)

Dax Harwood vs Jeff Jarrett (AEW, 4-26-2023)

AEW Dynamite, Sunrise, FL

Here it is. Tony Khan Presents The TAPE Bowl. The most highly-anticipated match of the year.

Officials are out to prevent Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh from accompanying Jarrett to the ring. Dutt has to have a manager’s license, come on. Maybe not the other two, but Dutt for sure, right? Either he’s being wronged or he’s not as smart as I thought about his paperwork.

REVIEW: AEW Revolution (3-5-2023)

Let’s rock/roll!

Chris Jericho vs Ricky Starks

A good match and a really good choice for opener. I thought referee Aubrey Edwards did her usual horrendous job when she didn’t DQ Jericho once Sammy Guevara came out to the ringside area, from which the Jericho Appreciation Society were explicitly banned, and I thought the baseball bit bit was a little dumb, but the action was good and all that. Starks having Jericho’s number when things are fair and even is cool, seems like it’s the guy Jericho is going to actually “make,” as much as that’s a possible thing anymore, and not just “lose to”; the two are very different things. 3/5
