Biff Busick vs Timothy Thatcher (WWN, 11-16-2014)

WWNLive in China, Beijing, China

I have seen that pre-show/intermission WWN in China video package probably 50 times during live streams in my life and never watched a match from any of the events … UNTIL NOW. This is from the fourth and final show on the WWN tour of China in Nov. 2014, and I’ve chosen to play it safe and gone with a match that frankly can play anywhere and be exactly the same and also doesn’t particularly need a crowd reaction.

I mean, you get what I mean? Thatcher, Busick, put it anywhere. It’ll be what it is, more likely than not.

The idea is that pro wrestling will be new to much of this audience, so even more than normal Timmy and Biffbo are gruntin’ and shoutin’. Referee is extremely vocal in his directions. It’s a little odd, but it makes sense and you get used to it pretty quickly. I mean in real fights referees are very vocal. They have to be. Only when the referee isn’t actually in real charge of controlling fouls and stoppages and whatnot is he or she supposed to fade into the background more than not.

Busick backs Thatcher to the ropes and delivers a chop, which annoys Thatcher so he shoots for a double leg, only to be met with a brutal knee from Busick, right on the jaw. That gets two.

Busick brutalizing Thatcher here, methodically and with every single shot meaning something. Busick hitting these heavy running back elbows. Crowd getting some laughs in at various things, but also cheering the effort. Folks having a nice time.

Thatcher comes back with a basic bodyslam and a couple European uppercuts, but Busick blocks a third and drills Thatcher with a half-nelson suplex. From there they start hitting each other really hard. I mean there’s not a lot to describe with that. They’re smashing each other, then it goes to the floor for a moment, but it’s really just Thatcher bringing Busick back in for a butterfly suplay, which gets two.

Thatcher then mounts and drives home a few elbows, grabs a cross armbreaker, and Busick gets up as quickly as he can, kicking the shit out of Thatcher until the hold is released. Thatcher hits a couple gutwrench suplays, then grabs an armbar and Biff taps out.

The match is good, like it always has been anywhere. It’s 10 minutes of these two no-fluff guys whacking the shit out of each other; it’s certainly far from the best you can find of either of them, but on what is something of a novelty show (it’s not like WWN ever returned to China), it works as almost an exhibition of what they’re capable of. No frills, some basic stuff, no big drama or story building, really.
