Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes & Goldust (WWE, 10-14-2013)

WWE RAW, St. Louis, MO

This is another request, a no-DQ match for the tag titles held by Rollins and Reigns. I remember other, bigger matches these teams had, but don’t specifically remember this match other than its outcome and what happens after. Yay!

Cody and Goldust had been fired but got their jobs back eight days before this at Battleground with a win over this same team in an excellent match.

The match is a pretty standard modern WWE tag, really, which is kind of unfortunate given the stipulation, then eventually Goldust gets hold of a chair and whacks some fools. But he drops it, and when Reigns knocks him down, Roman shouts, “You IDIOT! You NEVER put the chair down!” My man’s played a lot of WWE video games. But anyway the chair backfires on Roman.

Cody gets himself power bombed into the barricade by Rollins as the fight has fully broken out now. Not really sure why everyone was obeying tag team rules in a no-DQ match for so long but Vince McMahon is a tricky fig. Goldust puts the whoopin’ on both Shield boys and the crowd is getting fired up down the stretch.

Ambrose gets himself involved and the camera guy shakes the camera a lot as instructed. Goldust, distracted by Ambrose, is wide open for Roman’s barricade-breaking spear, a full-on WWE trademark spot.

OH MY GOD, IT’S BIG SHOW FROM THE CROWD! And the crowd is going banana! Big Show had recently been dramatically fired by The Authority (he had also previously reluctantly knocked out Dusty Rhodes on Authority orders) and he cleans house on Ambrose and Rollins, then knocks out Reigns with one big punch. Cody pins — 1, 2, 3, the Rhodes brothers are new champions.

A furious HHH hits the ring but there’s not much he can do here. Leaving through the crowd, a smiling Big Show celebrates with fans.

These teams had really good chemistry. It’s lengthy enough (about 19 minutes) to have a lot of meat, but the bulk is more in the dumb normal tag team rules part of the explicitly no DQ match, just filling time. Their match at Battleground eight days prior to this was excellent and this isn’t really a scratch on that one, but it’s good.
