XPW Hostile Takeover, Philadelphia, PA

This is a request via Ko-fi. Guido you surely know if not from ECW than his WWE stint as Nunzio. Grimes was a big crazy guy who made his name feuding with Erin O’Grady (later Crash Holly) in California, then got a cup of coffee in the WWF as a drug dealer. But he’s perhaps most famous for a few incidents with New Jack in ECW and XPW. And Altar Boy Luke is now Luke Hawx.

Luke wants to bless Grimes, so Grimes throws him across the ring and focuses on Guido, who gives him the old fuck you. Short arm clothesline from Grimes on Guido, then Luke comes in with a heel kick to Grimes. Luke off the ropes, Guido busts his face. Grimes runs Guido over with an elbow.

Luke ducks a Grimes clothesline, then hilts a tilt-a-whirl headscissors and a dropkick. Grimes finally falls out of the ring. Luke just springing all over the dang place here. Big swan dive to the floor from Luke! Guido dives out and misses everyone.

Luke using his speed to fluster Grimes, then he hits a corkscrew springboard dive onto both guys. Grimes sent back into the ring. He 450’s off but gets caught in mid-air and gets planted on his face by Grimes. Luke kicks out at two. Guido up top, and drops an elbow on Luke. Guido stomping on Luke, Grimes outside.

Luke springboards into an armbar from Guido. Grimes back with a couple of pretty weak chairshots, which are not flying here at Viking Hall. He wedges the chair into the corner, but Luke avoids being whipped into it. Luke goes for a rana, but Grimes power bombs him and Guido breaks the pin with a dropkick.

Guido suplexes Luke over. Guido also avoids the chair, and headscissors Grimes’ head into it. Two count and Luke breaks. Luke and Guido trade chops. Luke with a back suplex. Grimes back up and nails Luke with an elbow, then whips him to the corner, but misses his charge. Tornado DDT from Luke, then he’s out to the apron, where he stands back facing the ring on the second rope, and moonsaults in for two.

Guido stomping on Luke. Grimes hits the Victimizer, a sort of front-facing Razor’s Edge, on Luke for two. Luke and Guido decide, finally, to double team the big guy. They whip Grimes to the corner, he gets two feet up when they follow. Grimes off the second rope with a double clothesline.

Power bomb from Grimes on Guido, turned into a backbreaker over the shoulder. Guido is called a “high flyer” on commentary, which is interesting. Anyway Grimes walks the rope and drops a leg over Luke’s arm. Mostly it just proves he can walk the ropes, which is impressive athletically.

Luke gets gorilla pressed and dropped down into a chokeslam. Grimes with an interesting sort of submission, a cloverleaf on the arms, and now Guido cloverleafs the legs. Luke gives up, so he’s eliminated.

Guido with a crossbody that almost turns into a sunset flip out of the corner. Cover gets two. Grimes with a back elbow to Guido, stopping a whip to the ropes. Grimes with elbows in the corner. Big running avalanche in the corner from Grimes. Now he rubs his ass, and runs his ass into Guido’s face.

Grimes up to the second rope, and he hits a Vader bomb style headbutt to Guido’s nuts. Guido dragged out and placed into position. Grimes going up. Twisting splash misses, and Guido, the high flyer, is going up top! He hits a missile dropkick. Guido covers, only gets two.

Grimes with a punch to the stomach, goes for a power bomb, but Guido counters with the Fujiwara armbar. Guido posts on the rope, and John Finnegan sees it, then a moment later realizes that’s probably illegal.

Guido to the corner, boot from Grimes misses, and Guido climbs on with a legbar. Grimes drops, Guido has him tied up with an ankle lock. Grimes gets the rope. Grimes winds up hitting a reverse Oklahoma stampede, and both men are down again.

Grimes landing shots when they get up. Guido ducks a clothesline, rolls Grimes up for two. Guido ducks another clothesline, Grimes going for a power bomb, but it turns into a Styles Clash for the win for Grimes.

Rating: 2/5. Luke was fun, but Grimes and Guido were mismatched with no real chemistry and the crowd never got into this. Grimes didn’t even do anything absurdly insane, which was most of his appeal, to be honest.
