WCW Spring Stampede, Tacoma, WA

This is often regarded as the last great WCW pay-per-view, and it may have been. I dunno, I liked their last PPV ever, Greed in 2001, but it’s been a long time since I watched it, too. Anyway, this is the opener of this show. The winner of this match is No. 1 contender for the cruiserweight title and they’ll face the champ on the next night’s Nitro.

Juvi’s going to wrestle with a big dangling necklace on because he’s Juvi. They shake hands to start, the code of honor is observed. Hammerlock from Blitzkrieg, Juvi reverses. Blitzkrieg flips out, Juvi goes behind, off the ropes and rolled off, but he catches Blitzkrieg with a drop toehold and a quick rollup for two.

Blitzkrieg going to the ankle. Heenan predicts we’ll see a move we’ve never seen before. He wants to bet Tenay. Juvi with another quick pin attempt for two. Blitzkrieg complaining that Guerrera is fucking with his mask. Side headlock from Blitzkrieg. Juventud goes for a suplex, Blitzkrieg lands on his feet and goes back to the headlock. Blitzkrieg off the ropes, shoulders Juvi down. Juvi goes for a monkey flip, Blitzkrieg lands on his feet, they do some quick reversals, then Blitzkrieg hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for two.

Blitzkrieg with a quick chop, another, Juvi fires back with three of his own. Juvi off the ropes, tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Juvi mounts in the corner, basically standing over a downed Blitzkrieg to play to the crowd. Whip to the other corner is reversed, Blitzkrieg flies in with the cartwheel handspring back elbow. Blitzkrieg with a stomp to the shoulder, mounts in the corner and rains down right hands, all 10 land.

Another chop from Blitzkrieg. Corner whip reversed by Juvi, charges in and backdropped to the apron. Blitzkrieg with a forearm, but Juvi runs him into the corner and rams his head into the turnbuckle 10 times.

Guerrera on the apron, waiting, waiting, waiting, springboard dropkick to the side of the head! Blitzkrieg rolls out to the floor. He wanders a bit, Juvi lines him up and flies with a big dive over the top!

Back into the ring after a quick break. Nasty brainbuster from Juvi! Two count as Heenan predicts Blitzkrieg will make his mark in this sport, which of course he never really did, except he also did, because people still remember his few months in WCW. He made memories.

Rito Romero Special from Guerrera, but Blitzkrieg spins out and pins for two. Blitzkrieg with forearms then a jumping back kick to the chin. Blitzkrieg with another chop. To the corner, he follows by flipping off of Juvi’s body and then kicking him out to the floor. Blitzkrieg takes a moment to catch his breath.

Blitzkrieg going up top after that quick breather, but Guerrera gets the fuck away. Blitzkrieg follows to the other corner and flies off, and Juventud DRILLS him in mid-air with a dropkick. Both men down on the floor, and the count is on.

Back into the ring with both men, Juvi sends Blitzkrieg off the ropes, tilt-a-whirl, but Blitzkrieg counters with an armdrag and Juvi goes back out to the floor. Guerrera in the landing zone at the mouth of the entranceway, and Blitzkrieg hits a crazy springboard moonsault from the top rope!

Back in quickly, Juvi blocks a power bomb, goes for the Juvi Driver, doesn’t get it. They both keep countering and Guerrera hits an inverted bulldog for two. Juventud puts him up top, back to the ring, and goes for something or other, and Blitzkrieg sloppily counters and they tumble to the mat. Heenan does a good job covering.

Blitzkrieg up top, he misses a sky twister. Juvi Driver countered with an inside cradle for two. Now Blitzkrieg puts Juvi up top, goes for something, and they kinda fuck that up, too, but it results in Blitzkrieg getting another two count.

Back up top, Blitzkrieg going for something again, but JUVI COUNTERS WITH THE JUVI DRIVER FROM THE SECOND ROPE. GOODNIGHT MOTHERFUCKER. THREE COUNT.

Rating: 4/5. Without the couple of sloppier moments this might’ve gotten a MOTY Forever listing but it did have them and it was a little disjointed and blah blah blah, but mostly it kicks ass, just a couple crazy young men doing crazy young man shit. Bobby Heenan’s great enthusiasm makes the match even better.
