Kaitlyn vs AJ Lee (WWE, 6-16-2013)

WWE Payback, Rosemont, IL

This is a request via Ko-fi. Kaitlyn is defending the Divas championship. AJ Lee and Big E Langston had played a secret admirer trick on Kaitlyn on RAW the previous Monday. I don’t remember any of this, to be honest.

Big E is in AJ’s corner. Lee blows a kiss to start the match, and Kaitlyn ragdolls her quickly, just losing her temper. The fight goes to the floor immediately, and AJ is straight hurled over the Spanish commentary desk. Kaitlyn brings it back into the ring.

Forearm to the back from Kaitlyn, just mauling AJ with repeated shots. Lee tries to bail out of the ring, Kaitlyn stays with her. Lee with one shot, she runs away, and then hits a dropkick from the apron to drop Kaitlyn. Lee with her general overacting “I’m a CrAzY cHiCk” stuff.

Back into the ring, Lee with a knee choke over the middle rope. Cover from AJ gets two. All women despise each other, Lawler says. Lee with a side headlock. Kaitlyn elbows out, off the ropes, eats a back elbow from AJ. Cover, two.

Reverse neckbreaker from Lee, she hangs on and rolls it into a second one. Cover gets two. Lee talks shit and kicks Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn with potshots to the stomach, Lee blocks a whip and grabs a sleephold, grapevining the body. Kaitlyn down to a knee as she struggles in the hold. Kaitlyn backs her into the corner to break the hold, but AJ dropkicks her in the back and covers again for two.

AJ with a spin kick to the stomach, off the ropes, Kaitlyn catches her with a dropkick. Clothesline from Kaitlyn, back elbow from Kaitlyn, AJ misses a clothesline aimed at something or other, then Kaitlyn pounces her. Cover gets two.

AJ blocks something, gets a crucifix, cover gets just one. Rolls it back, but Kaitlyn uses her power and brings it up into an over the shoulder stomachbreaker. Kaitlyn fired up again and rips AJ’s belt off. Lawler wants to see a spanking. AJ pulling the ring skirt into the ring trying to hang on as Kaitlyn pulls her back into the ring.

With the official distracted by the ring skirt, AJ hits Kaitlyn with the studded belt. Both women down. AJ plays possum and then crawls over to cover, getting two again. AJ screams because she’s cRaZy. Lee decides to head out and up to the top with Kaitlyn all the way across the ring. Kaitlyn stumbles up and staggers into the leap, but catches AJ in a crossbody attempt. Kaitlyn spins her around, Lee counters with the Black Widow! Kaitlyn has nowhere to go here, but she maneuvers her way out and hits a backbreaker counter.

SPEAR! Kaitlyn hits the spear! Kaitlyn goes to cover, but then lifts AJ up and blows a kiss to her, then slams her head down, covers, and only gets two. Kaitlyn really screwed the pooch there. AJ too much in her head. AJ fights Kaitlyn away again, shoves her off, and Kaitlyn misses a charge in the corner, cracking her head on the middle turnbuckle.

Lee grabs the Black Widow again! Kaitlyn again in the center of the ring with nowhere to go. Kaitlyn screaming in pain, trying to power out, but AJ rehooks the top leg over the neck. Kaitlyn taps out! New Divas champion.

Rating: 4/5. This was quite good! I didn’t remember the match so I was worried that’s because I didn’t like it, but nah, it’s very good. They had a story, they told the story, the action was solid. Kaitlyn lost because she was too emotional, a direct result of AJ Lee’s prodding and mind games in the build-up and before the match got going. I’m not the biggest fan of AJ Lee the actor or her promos, but she had an undeniable charisma and could go in the ring, she really took pride in her work, and Kaitlyn holds her own here, too, someone with physical presence who wasn’t quite on AJ’s level as a worker but held up her end of the bargain at the very least.
