Well, Ian had to bring all these guys in for the weekend, might as well get a second night out of all of them. These are all guys who lost in the first round of the tournament. Frankly the night could’ve completely done without that absolute barnburner of an opening match but people brought friends.

Danny Daniels vs Todd Sexton (IWA MS, 9-17-2004)

Back to the 2004 TPI! Daniels won the tournament in 2003 and is a standout in IWA Mid-South, former champion. Sexton is coming in for his second TPI appearance, having lost to AJ Styles in 2003, and he gets a tough draw again this year. Sexton, who trained at the Shawn Michaels school where Rudy Boy Gonzales did everything, is now trainer for NWA Wildside; in 2004, I mean; NWA Wildside doesn’t exist in 2020, having shut down under a year after this show when owner Bill Behrens took a job with WWE. They had also been a “developmental” territory, such as it were then, for WCW, and later they became an unofficial feeder for NWA-TNA. It was a fun indie.
