This is the main event of the only show I ever went to where I bought a front row seat. For Terry Funk, I was front rowin’ it, without question. I wasn’t gonna get second or third row and have to look around someone’s fat head all night. Someone else could look around my fat head all night. (I wound up with a corner seat, so I could move it out a bit and in fact nobody had to look around my fat head at all! A true Christmas miracle!)

Well, Ian had to bring all these guys in for the weekend, might as well get a second night out of all of them. These are all guys who lost in the first round of the tournament. Frankly the night could’ve completely done without that absolute barnburner of an opening match but people brought friends.

Petey Williams vs BJ Whitmer (IWA MS, 9-17-2004)

Wrapping up night one of the 2004 TPI with the last match of the first round, also for the IWA Mid-South heavyweight title held by Williams, who has vowed to defend it throughout the tournament as is tradition dating back a couple years. He beat Whitmer for this belt about three-and-a-half months before this on the May 29 Highland show, which is most famous for Hero vs Joe and also featured a one-night tag team title tournament, another show I saw live. Great show.
